How to Reset a Windows Password in Regedit at Boot


This is a fairly simple way to reset / change your Windows user account password if, for whatever reason you can't gain access to your account.

This tutorial can be used to reset the password in Windows 7 or Vista.

Making changes to the Windows Registry has the potential to disable the PC, if you have any concerns over using the information set forth here please feel free to post a question in this same tutorial and we will be glad to help.

Be Advised: if you use this method to reset you're user account password ANY / All access to encrypted files stored in the account will be lost.
Let's get Started!

1) The Boot Priority in the BIOS needs to be set to boot first from the optical drive; insert your Windows disk and re-start the PC.
At the first screen select your language then Repair your computer then it'll do some searching, at System Recovery Options dot Use recovery tools then select the OS and click next; while there make note of the OS drive letter, it may not be C: like mine is D:.

2) At the next screen select "Command Prompt" then in the Command window type "regedit" (without the quotes) and hit enter.

3) In the Registry Editor window that opens click to select "HKey_Local_Machine" then at the "File" menu select "Load Hive".

4) In the "Look In" in the "Load Hive" window that opens navigate to (in my case) LocalDiskD:\Windows\System32\config\SYSTEM and click "Open".

5) In the "Load Hive", "Key Name" box give the new key a name e.g. " 123 " (it can be whatever you like) and click OK.

6) In the left pane of the registry Editor window click the " + " sign to expand the "HKey_Local_Machine" key then click the " + " sign to expand the "123" key then click to select the "Setup" key.

7) Now in the right pane right click "SetupType" and select "Modify", set the "Value data" to " 2 " and click OK.

8) Again in the right pane right click "CmdLine" and select "Modify" and set the "Value data" to "cmd.exe" and click OK.

9) Now just as a precaution, close the Registry Editor at the "File" menu click "Exit"; then in the Command window that's still open type "regedit" and hit enter to open the Registry Editor again.

10) In the Registry Editor click the " + " sign to expand HKey_Local_Machine and click to select the new "123" key, at the "File" menu select "Unload Hive" and click "Yes" for the "Are you sure ..." question.

11) Now close the Registry Editor at the "File" menu click "Exit" then in the Command window type "exit" and hit enter to close the Command window, then remove the Windows disk and restart the PC.

12) When the PC restarts a Command window will open, in that window type "net user <username> <new password>" mine is (net user "Bare Foot Kid" Test6) be advised: if you have a username like mine, with spaces, you must use " " quotes around the user name; when you get the "Command Completed Successfully" type "exit" in the Command window and hit enter; at the logon screen use the new password you chose.

How to Enable or Disable Windows 7 System Restore

This will show you how to enable or disable System Restore for all users in Windows 7.
System Restore is enabled by default in Windows 7. If this is disabled, System Restore is turned off, and the System Restore Wizard cannot be accessed. The option to configure System Restore or create a restore point through System Protection is also disabled and grayed out.

OPTION ONE
Using a REG File Download
1. To Enable System Restore
A) Click on the Download button below to download the file below.
NOTE: This is the default setting.

B) Go to step 3.
2. To Disable System Restore
A) Click on the Download button below to download the file below.

3. Click on Save, and save the .reg file to the desktop.

4. Right click the downloaded .reg file on the Desktop and click on Merge.

5. Click on Run, Yes, Yes, and OK when prompted.

6. When done, you can delete the downloaded .reg file on the desktop if you like.

7. If the Configure button is still grayed out, then see: System Restore Configuration - Enable or Disable

8. If enabled, you can now turn on system protection for restore points.


OPTION TWO
Through the Local Group Policy Editor
1. Open the Local Group Policy Editor.
2. In the left pane, click on to expand Computer Configuration, Administrative Templates, System, and System Restore. (see screenshot below)

3. In the right pane, right click on Turn off System Restore and click on Edit. (see screenshot above)

4. To Enable System Restore
A) Select (dot) either Not Configured or Disabled. (see screenshot below step 6)
NOTE: The default setting is Not Configured.
B) Go to step 6.
5. To Disable System Restore
A) Select (dot) Enabled. (see screenshot below step 6)
6. Click on OK. (see screenshot below)

9. If enabled, you can now turn on system protection for restore points.

Launching Hiren’s BootCD from USB Flash Drive

To launch Hiren’s BootCD from USB flash drive, first of all, your BIOS settings should be configured in order to change the boot order of your computer to USB drive. If you are having problem on changing boot order in BIOS, please refer Change the Boot Order in BIOS document. Please note that some computers may not support booting from USB drive and the steps below only works for the versions of Hiren’s BootCD 9.7 or newer.

Step1: Formating USB Flash Drive


Please note that, all data on your usb flash drive will be lost. Before doing this step, don’t forget to backup your files on the usb flash drive.

1. Connect a 512 MB or above flash drive.
2. Download and run USB Disk Storage Format (34 KB). Follow the steps in the screenshots below: 


Step2: Installing Grub4Dos to USB Flash Drive


Download grub4dos.zip (187 KB) to desktop. Follow the steps below:


1. Right click to the zip file and click 'Extract All...'

2. Click Next


3. Click Next to extract archive contents

4. Click Finish

Now open ‘grub4dos’ folder created on your desktop. Run ‘grubinst_gui.exe’ inside of grub4dos folder and follow the steps below:


1. Run grub4dos

2. Click 'Run' on if you face with a Security Warning window

3. If you are not sure which disk is your USB Flash Drive, select the drive with the same size with your USB flash drive.


4. Installation of grub4dos completed. Press Enter to close the window.

Step3: Copy Files to USB Flash Drive


1. Put Hiren’s BootCD (9.7 or newer) into the CD Drive.
2. Copy everything from CD to USB Flash Drive.
3. Copy grldr and menu.lst (from HBCD folder of the CD) to the usb drive’s root folder. Finally contents of your USB Flash Drive should look like as below:

[TUTORIAL] LG A140 Flashing




Since LG A140 is a Sagem based phone, SMT Sagem software is needed to download S/W.




Flashing Procedure:

1. Download SMT_Sagem_software_20110616.zip and extract.
2. Donwload SMT_1.1.0.1.zip and extract.
3. Download firmware(links are at the end of this post), extract and copy all the files to SMT_Sagem_software_20101117 folder.
4. Install USB driver from SMT_1.1.0.1\Tools folder (you may need to connect the phone to complete installation).
5. Run LGE_SMT_U38TM.exe from SMT_1.1.0.1 folder, you'll get the settings winndow, select SMT_Sagem_software_20101117 folder in Master Directory, click OK.
6. Now main window wil open, connect the phone to usb cable and click detect, it will write Connection OK if detection is successfull.
7. Click Download.
